Fresh round of cuts in cement prices in Mumbai and Delhi
Prices in Mumbai saw a cut of Rs 2-18 per bag
Mumbai based cement players cut cement prices by an average of Rs 4 - 12 per bag yesterday as the housing and infrastructure sectors continue to show no sign of recovery. Overall the cut came from Rs 2-18 per bag, depending on the category of cement and the companies. While large cement
companies cut cement prices by Rs 2-5 per bag, mid and small sized companies took a cut ranging from Rs 7-18 per bag. Importantly, the price cut came after a period of more than 15 days, indicating cautious cement players in Mumbai.
Currently, OPC 53 grade cement in Mumbai is available for Rs 270 per bag (decline of Rs 4 per bag against 12-5-2015 prices) while PPC is at Rs 268 per bag (decline of Rs 5 per bag against 12-5-2015 prices). Prices of PSC declined by Rs 12 per bag to Rs 260 per bag, yesterday.
Few players in Delhi cut cement prices
Northern region is showing a mixed trend in May 2015. While on one hand cement and stones have seen price cut yesterday, prices of brick improved in UP and Haryana. Few cement players in Delhi which had shied away from cutting cement prices on 25-5-2015, took a Rs 5 per bag cut yesterday. It also includes a largest cement player in the north which took second cut in last 10 days. Interestingly, brick prices have increased in UP and Haryana by Rs 50-150 per 1000 pcs for the first time in last 15 days. Prices of stones and sand declined by Rs 100 and Rs 200 per 300sqft yesterday.
South remains resilient; east witnessed a steady decline in prices in May
Players in south continued to maintain the price discipline in May 2015. Apart from a small Rs 2-3 per bag movement on both up and downside, cement prices remained stable during the month. Cement prices in Kolkata declined by Rs 20 per bag since early May 2015, witnessed 4 steady declines. Currently for past 10 days, prices are stable at the levels of Rs 332 per bag for OPC 53 grade, Rs 328 per bag for OPC 43 grade and around Rs 325 per bag for PPC.
